The Bulls will not have a recruiting envelope to replace Patrick Williams | NBA

Badly landed on his wrist and victim of a perilunary carpal dislocation, an extremely rare problem, Patrick Williams had joined the infirmary after only five matches this season.

Operated on October 31, the winger of the Bulls would stay away from the courts for four to six months. To make up for his absence, the Chicago franchise had requested a « Disabled Player Exception », that is to say an envelope to recruit a replacement.

Except that as the 4th choice of the 2020 Draft could return to the playoffs, which he hopes, moreover, and his season is not definitively over. Under these conditions, the league refused the Bulls’ request.

Disabled Player Exception : when a franchise loses a player for a long time, it can ask the NBA to take advantage of an additional envelope to recruit a player. This “exemption”, granted after a study of the medical file, makes it possible not to count the salary of the injured player, and to offer a contract to his replacement for an amount equal to 50% of the salary of the injured player. With this envelope, you can sign a free player or a player on the cut list, but also make a transfer. The duration of the player’s contract acquired by this exception may not exceed one year, and with this envelope, only one player can be acquired.
