That’s what the hotels at the Qatar World Cup will cost – surprising prices! – Soccer

Many soccer fans all over the world are wondering: How much will it cost me to travel to the World Cup in Qatar next year? Now there are the first answers!

BamS has an exclusive letter from the Ministry of Commerce to the hotels in Qatar. In it: The fixed maximum price that the hostels are allowed to charge for a room – broken down by category.

From November 1st, around three weeks before the opening game of the tournament on November 21st, the following maximum prices per night per room may be charged:

★ 5-star luxury hotels: 2133 Qatari riyals (approx. 520 euros)

★ 4-star hotels: 482 riyals (approx. 117 euros)

★ 3-star hotels: 438 riyals (107 euros)

★ 2 and 1 star hotels: 296 riyals (72 euros)

However, the rooms are not yet bookable. At the moment, the OK and Fifa are holding back the contingents and want to wait and see which 32 teams will finally qualify for the tournament. At the moment only 13 teams have been determined, including hosts Qatar and Germany.

Qatar expects up to 1.2 million football fans during the tournament, which ends on December 18, – far too many for the existing hotels in the country.

Therefore, around 60,000 private apartments and villas are also rented and several cruise ships are chartered, which are moored in the port and should offer accommodation for up to 10,000 fans. It is likely that these prices will also be capped.

There has never been a World Cup before that a state sets the maximum prices for overnight stays. A blatant intervention in the economy.

What would German hoteliers say if that happened in this country? Alex Urseanu (50), entrepreneur and owner of the Gekko Group (including Roomers Hotels): “The idea has a charming background, of course, but you can’t compare Qatar with Germany. Here we have the free market economy. Such regulations would destroy competition. “

In the past, privately run hotels met at large events such as trade fairs to agree on prices. But without success. It’s different in Qatar. An order is simply issued – and everyone has to adhere to it.
