Tayfun Korkut demands work, activity, creativity

WTayfun Korkut has gotten around a little during his career, playing in Spain and Turkey. But his Swabian characteristics have remained. They stood out on Monday when Korkut was supposed to talk about his debut as a coach after Hertha BSC’s 2-2 draw at VfB Stuttgart. The performance was “brave”, “but in the end we didn’t manage to break away from someone in the table,” said Korkut. He saw a lot of positive things, “but of course there are also topics that we have to work on. But I am in good spirits that we can do it with hard work ”.

The 47-year-old coach will have to do well if he wants to lead Hertha BSC out of the lower table area until the winter break. Korkut’s first Bundesliga game in almost three years turned out to be a demonstration of all the skills and abilities his new team brings. In the early goals conceded by Stuttgart’s Omar Marmoush and Philipp Förster, Hertha’s defense was pushed too far and, on top of that, secured far too negligently. That was punished. “My teams have always been good on the defensive,” said Korkut and praised improvement. After all, he also stated: “I have seen an intact team that did not allow itself to be thrown off course by blows in the neck and continued to play courageously forwards.”

In the past, Hertha had found it difficult to catch up on arrears. That was different with Korkut’s debut. From a certain point on, Hertha played more determinedly forward and had a single talent in the person of the double goalscorer Stevan Jovetic. “We showed character and deserved the draw,” said Jovetic. Korkut was full of praise for his Montenegro striker. “You can see why he has played in many top leagues and at larger clubs. Not many players in the Bundesliga can achieve such a conclusion as they did with the first goal. “

Korkut wants to align the team more offensively than his predecessor Pal Dardai. He says it has already implemented a lot. “Training content and ideas have become visible, especially when you are in possession of the ball,” says Korkut, who wants “activity and creativity with the ball”. In recent years, however, a number of coaches have failed because of the idea of playing attractive and successful football with Hertha.
