Tadej Pogacar already sharp in … cyclo-cross

Baron Pierre de Coubertin rehashed it for decades, the important thing is to participate! The expression is, however, ignored by the immense champions of the caliber of Tadej Pogacar, the double winner of the Tour de France 2020 and 2021! Guest of honor, this Sunday, of a stage of the Slovenian Cup of… cyclo-cross, Tadej Pogacar was not satisfied to take part. As usual, he came, he saw and he conquered, to use the famous quote from Julius Caesar.

This is not a first for him in this discipline. In 2018, the Slovenian won the national title in his country in the hopes category. Two years after his last cyclo-cross event, Pogacar has shown that he hasn’t lost any of his skill on the muddy slopes of Ljubljana. In a disputed event without spectators, due to the health crisis, the UAE-Emirates rider won after having left his rivals a lap and a half from the finish. He won by ten seconds ahead of a certain Luka Mezgec (BikeExchange), also present at this meeting and Matevz Govekar (Tirol KTM Cycling Team). Wink of fate, it is the same Mezgec who had beaten him during his last cyclo-cross race, two years ago.

Back from a preparation camp in Spain before this success in cyclo-cross, Tadej Pogacar continues his training and has already announced that he will compete in his first Tour of Flanders next year.

For his part, the Belgian Wout Van Aert notched his second victory of the season in the Cyclo-cross World Cup Sunday in Dendermonde in Belgium, behind Mathieu Van Der Poel by 49 seconds, who signed his return to the circuit. It was the first confrontation between the two men since the World Championships in Ostend won by the Dutch against his Belgian rival eleven months ago.
