Surprise victory for Viktor Hovland in the Bahamas

Taking advantage of the failure of the leader Collin Morikawa in the last lap, the Norwegian Viktor Hovland won the title in the Hero World Challenge thanks to an excellent last card (-7).

As he seemed to be heading straight for the world number one title and spot, Collin Morikawa cracked this Sunday on the course ofAlbany in the Bahamas. Two double-bogeys and a bogey on its first leg quickly melted its five-point lead.

Winner of The Open this year, Collin Morikawa could dislodge Jon Rahm of first place in the world in case of victory. He will therefore remain second with this 5th final place, after a heavy 76 (+4). This year 2021 will nonetheless remain exceptional for the 24-year-old golfer of Japanese origin, who notably became the first American to win the Race to Dubai.

Hovland and profit

With this bad day, Morikawa opened the door to its competitors. And it’s finally the Norwegian Viktor Hovland which engulfed itself until victory with an eventful card of 66 (-6).

Wisely at -4 for the day after eleven holes, the three-time winner on the PGA Tour conceded a first bogey on the 12, before chaining two eagles on the 14 and 15 followed by a birdie on the 16! Despite two bogeys to finish, the Ryder Cup player wins for his first participation in this event hosted by none other than Tiger Woods.

Scottie Scheffler y a cru

It was definitely the Sunday of surprises since Scottie Scheffler finished second at one stroke. The American was far from the podium after his triple-bogey of 4, because of several identical chips missed on the fairway. But he relaunched superbly with seven birdies on his last ten holes to fail a stroke. Hovland, next to Sam Burns and Patrick Reed. Only men above the par, Jordan Spieth and Henrik Stenson have scoopedan original penalty and hitting a ball from the wrong teeing tee !
