Striking: national coach walks onto the field to designate a penalty kicker | Remarkable

In the added time of the match between Oman and Iraq, Iraq is awarded a penalty. The ideal opportunity to score one more point, because it is currently 1-0 for Oman.

Ayman Hussein misses the penalty, but Iraq is allowed to take the penalty again because the Oman goalkeeper came off his line too quickly. At that moment, Zeljko Petrovic, national coach of Iraq, can no longer contain himself.

He fears that Hussein will miss again and wants to prevent that. He comes running onto the field and points to Hasan Abdulkareem to kick the penalty.

Petrovic is escorted off the field by one of his players, but when he is back on the bench he sees Abdulkareem cash in on the penalty. Iraq still takes a point against Oman.

For Petrovic, ex-coach of RKC and ADO and ex-assistant coach of, among others, Feyenoord and Serbia, it was his debut as the national coach of Iraq. He succeeded Dick Advocaat at the end of November. He gave up as coach of Iraq after only 3 months.

It is the first edition of the Arab Cup, a tournament between the Arab countries. Taking place in Qatar, it is actually the ultimate preparation for Qatar for next year’s World Cup. Games are played in World Cup stadiums and FIFA is also experimenting with cameras that can automatically detect offsides.
