Shin Tae Yong Called needing a miracle in the second leg of the final AFF Cup 2021 (2020) in order to bring Indonesian National team won this tournament for the first time.
In the first leg of the AFF Cup final at the National Stadium, Wednesday (29/12) night, Indonesia bowed to Thailand after losing 0-4.
The opportunity for the Garuda Squad to win has not been closed, because there is still a second leg final at the National Stadium, Saturday (1/1). However, winning by a margin or forcing Thailand to proceed to extra time or on penalties is not an easy matter.

Moreover, Indonesia is still overshadowed by the ‘curse’ of never winning the AFF Cup. Since appearing in the AFF Cup for the first time (previously the Tiger Cup) in 1996, Indonesia has made it to the final five times, but had to settle for being runner-up.

From five times to the final and being runners-up, Thailand is the team that has made Indonesia suffer the most, with three defeats in the 2000, 2006 and 2016 AFF Cups.
Indonesia lost heavily in the first leg after Thailand won 4-0 through goals from Chanathip Songkrasin in the second minute and 52′, Supachok Sarachat (67′), and Bordin Phala (83′).
