Rubljov, the world number five, is the fifth infected participant in the exhibition in Abu Dhabi

After the mini-tournament in Abu Dhabi, the Spanish Rafael Nadal, the Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the Swiss Olympic winner Belinda Bencicová and the Tunisian Ons Džabúrová had a positive test result for covid-19. Sensational US Open champion Emma Raducanu became infected before traveling to the UAE and did not participate in the event. Nadal’s coach Carlos Moyá also had a positive test.

The 24-year-old Rublyov defeated Andy Murray in the World Tennis Championship final on December 18 and has now stated on Twitter that he is in isolation in Barcelona with minor signs. “As you know, I’m fully vaccinated and preparing for the ATP Cup and Australian Open tournaments. Now I have to recover and travel to Melbourne only after it’s safe for everyone,” he wrote.

The inaugural grand slam season begins in Melbourne Park on January 17. Rubljov, together with Daniil Medvedev, is the support of the Russian team, which this year won both the ATP Cup and Davis Cup team competitions. A native of Moscow was to be a member of the Russian team at the upcoming third year of the ATP Cup.
