Ray Kennedy, former Liverpool and Arsenal icon, has died

Former Liverpool and Arsenal midfielder Ray Kennedy, Reds icon, died Tuesday at the age of 70 from Parkinson’s disease, the Liverpool club said in a statement. “Everyone’s thoughts at Liverpool FC are with Ray’s family and friends at this difficult and sad time,” the North England club wrote on its website on Tuesday.

Kennedy won three European Champion Clubs’ Cups (C1) with the Reds in 1977, 1978, against Club Brugge, and 1981, after arriving from Arsenal in 1974, where he made his debut in 1968.

He had been one of the strong men of the Gunners, taking part in the double Championship-FA Cup won in 1971, with an FA Cup final won against … Liverpool.

Parkinson’s disease from which the former England international (17 caps) suffered was diagnosed in 1984.
