Covid hits the basketball world hard and hard. There are already several teams struggling with the virus: Mantua, which was supposed to be the next opponent of Pistoia, Udine, Turin, Assigeco Piacenza, to which Biella, Trapani, Milan, Treviglio who are part of the group have been added in the last few hours green, Chieti and Cento who are in the red group. A situation that at the moment does not seem to be manageable also because the number of clubs could be destined to grow. The Federation was forced to make the decision to move, precisely in consideration of the current health situation in the country due to the surge in Covid infections, the last day of the first round of both rounds of the A2 championship, initially scheduled for 2, to 16 January 2022.

“The provision – reads the note issued by the federation – was necessary in order to allow the recovery of the matches not played in the first round and define the grid for participation in the next Italian Cup scheduled for March”.

The first two return rounds of both rounds of the A2 championship, initially scheduled for 9 and 16 January, have been postponed to a date to be defined.

The Giorgio Tesi Group Pistoia will return to the field on January 16 with the recovery of the last leg on the Mantua parquet, to then host the Bakery Piacenza at Palacarrara on the 22. The challenges with Casale Monferrato and Cantù have been postponed to a date to be set the first two of the second round. A decision that perfectly captures the state of uncertainty in which the whole country finds itself and sport is certainly no exception. Let’s say that we tried to do everything possible by moving the championship round scheduled for January 2nd to 16th in order to understand how the situation will evolve.

To this must be added the decision taken by the government to reduce the capacity for sports halls to 35 per cent, compared to the 60 that had been foreseen until now. Another hard blow to the coffers of the clubs already put to the test since last season, played behind closed doors, and by the impossibility of having the facilities at maximum capacity again. This new turn of the screw will create many problems. Finally, among the other measures put in place by the government to counter the peak of infections that is occurring in this period, there is the introduction, from 10 January, of the green pass also reinforced to all professionals and athletes. As for the public, in addition to the reinforced green pass, which was mandatory from 6 December to access the sports halls, the mandatory use of the Ffp2 mask has now been added.
