Clement would sign a contract for two and a half years with the French first division. The French news agency AFP learned that “from a good source”, it sounds Friday evening. The Club Brugge coach was previously mentioned as a candidate for the job in Monaco, alongside the Portuguese Paulo Fonseca and the American Jesse Marsch.

When Clement signs with the French top club, he faces the second foreign adventure of his career. In 1998-99, the former Red Devil played a season for England’s Coventry. As a trainer, he was only working in his own country: as an assistant at Club Brugge (2012-2017) and head coach of Waasland-Beveren (2017), Genk (2017-2019) and Club Brugge (since 2019).

With 29 points from 19 games, Monaco is sixth in the Ligue 1. In the Champions League, Monaco was already eliminated in the preliminary round by Shakhtar Donetsk, after which it qualified as group winner for the eighth finals of the Europa League.
