Pete Carroll: We don’t have to start from scratch

Since Pete Carroll became head coach of the Seattle Seahawks in 2010, the team had never finished last in the National Conference West Division. However, two weeks from the end of the 2021 season, it’s inevitable that the Seahawks will come out of the bottom of their division.

Following the Week 16 loss to the Chicago Bears, in which they lost a ten-point lead in the fourth quarter, the head coach asserted that the Seattle franchise does not need to press the reset button for the next campaign as you have the correct pieces.

For no reason am I thinking that we should start from scratch creating a new philosophy and a new approach for the team. I believe that we have the essence of what we need and that we must build on it, ”declared Pete Carroll for ESPN’s radio station in Seattle.

The Seahawks didn’t have a losing record season since they spun 7-9 campaigns in 2010 and 2011, Carroll’s first in command of the team.

Comparison with NFC West

The 70-year-old head coach is aware of the level his team has compared to its division rivals: the Arizona Cardinals, the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers. Linebacker Bobby Wagner and safety Quandre Diggs were the only Seahawks players invited to the Pro Bowl.

“When you look around our division and you see the Cardinals you realize they have a lot of stars on their roster. The Rams are also very well armed. The Niners also have a lot of offensive power, ”Carroll explained.

In five of the 12 seasons that Carroll has been in command of the Seahawks they have won the division and has only been out of the playoffs three times, including the current campaign.
