Panathlon Award, here are the names of the winners

Awards to the sportsmen Alice Maggioni, Lorenzo Carboni, Gavino Piredda and Angelino Priami

ALGHERO. The swimmer Alice Maggioni, the tennis player Lorenzo Carboni, the judo master Gavino Piredda and the former Italian boxing champion Angelino Priami are the winners of the 2021 edition of the Panathlon City of Alghero Award. The award ceremony for the prestigious award took place last Friday on the panoramic terrace of the Hotel Catalunya in the presence of the president of the Panathlon Club of Alghero, Bruno Piccinini. «The Panathlon Prize – underlines Piccinini – is awarded every two years to individual personalities from the world of sport or to sports clubs that have given significant prestige to the city. Combining important sporting achievements with exemplary behaviors regarding the founding principles of the panathletic movement. Over the years – Piccinini recalls – many personalities from the world of sport in Alghero have been awarded this prestigious award, among them, without wanting to belittle the others, all noteworthy in their specificity, we can mention Salvatore Burruni, Antonello Cuccureddu, Vanni Sanna and Aurora Salvagno ».

Among the winners of this edition, two career awards for Angelino Priami, former Italian boxing champion, and Gavino Piredda 7th dan in Judo and Golden Star for sporting merit. The other two winners were very young: Alice Maggioni, winner of two silvers and a bronze in the 50 freestyle at the Italian championships, and Lorenzo Carboni Italian tennis champion under 16. The ceremony was attended by the Governor of Panathlon Sardinia Francesco Sanna and, representing the mayor, the municipal councilor Giuseppe Musu. (n.n.)
