After months of radio silence, Olivier Renard (42) has once again made himself heard. The ex-sports director of Standard reacted in Sudpresse to the allegations against him in the Clean Hands case. “The only accusations against me come from the media,” Renard claims.

In May 2019, Standard and Olivier Renard parted ways by mutual agreement. The ex-goalkeeper then immediately went to Canada, where he became technical director at CF Montréal. Far away from any allegations, he continued his career.

Regrettant Dejan Veljkovic claimed that Olivier Renard, as sporting director of Standard, raised money for fictitious scouting assignments. In addition, Renard’s wife is said to have received a very expensive watch from Veljkovic. In total, Renard would have earned about 75,000 euros through the fictitious scouting network that Veljkovic set up at the time.

“None of the allegations against me are correct,” Renard said in an official statement at the time. “All payments I have received during my career have come from the clubs that have used my services. These allegations harm me.”

Transfer Edmilson

In February 2020, Olivier Renard, among others, was also discredited in another case. Sint Truiden and broker Kismet Eris filed a complaint for falsification of the transfer of Junior Edmilson to Qatar. Standard chairman Bruno Venanzi claimed that the Brazilian left for Qatar for an amount of two million euros, but that amount would have been officially around five million, according to STVV and Eris. In the meantime, the case has still not been solved after Venanzi demanded additional investigation last summer.

“On February 10, 2020, my name was mentioned for the first time. I was woken up at 3 am when RTBF reported that Venanzi had lodged a complaint (about the fictitious scouting assignments, ed.)”, says Renard. Coincidentally, this complaint came at the same time of the two other cases (Edmilson and Henrotay, ed.). Bruno Venanzi was questioned about the Veljkovic case, he was confronted with his statement and then he got the good idea to attack me.”

“Between February 2020 and today, no judge or investigator has contacted me,” Renard claims. “The only accusations come from the media. Because of the time difference in Canada, people find out about the accusations against me before I do because of what’s in the press.”
