For the fourth time, tennis star Novak Djokovic has won the election for “Europe’s Sportsman of the Year”. The 34-year-old Serb, who narrowly failed at the “Grand Slam” this year, won the election carried out by the Polish news agency PAP for the 64th time with 172 points 39 points ahead of last year’s winner, the Polish footballer Robert Lewandowski. Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen came third.

26 European news agencies – including APA – Austria Press Agency – took part in the election. The best woman in the mixed ranking was the 5,000 and 10,000 m Olympic champion Sifan Hassan in fifth place. The Dutch athlete also won bronze over 1,500 m at the Tokyo Games.
