Nicolás Jarry achieves a solid victory and advances to the quarterfinals of the Sao Paulo Challenger

He never tires of winning. Nicolás Jarry (160 °) continues to demonstrate the level that led him to be among the best 40 in the world and this season is crowning a great year, after starting it without ranking. This Wednesday he achieved a new victory in the Challenger of Sao Paulo, this time defeating the Brazilian Pedro Sakamoto (369 °), 6-3 and 6-4.

In just one hour and 16 minutes, the national tennis player imposed his terms. He showed a solid level with his serve. Again they did not break his serve and he had a high effectiveness with the first, winning 86% of the points. A break in the second game of the first set was enough for him to dominate his rival. The differences in ball speed were evident and the Chilean marked differences.

The trend of the first set was maintained in the second. Juan Ozón’s pupil combined serve and net and with very deep shots controlled any hint of reaction from his rival. Thus, a new break in the beginning was enough to extend that dominance and close a solid presentation, much better than that of the first round.

The victory puts Jarry one step away from returning to the group of the world’s 150 best, as he ranks 151st. A new triumph, meanwhile, will leave him in 146th place, displacing Tomás Barrios from that position.

For the passage to the semifinals, he will face Bolivian Hugo Dellien (119 °), who defeated by 4-6, 6-1 and 6-3 the Brazilian Daniel Dutra da Silva (401 °).

Nico faced the altiplano the week before, at the Challenger in Brasilia, falling in three sets. While last October, Jaime Fillol’s grandson emerged victorious in their quarterfinal match.
