Division overview after week 16 on the NFC

NFC East

The Cowboys (11-4) crushed their archrivals on new soil and were crowned champions of the East. Although it is worth noting that this had already happened thanks to the victory of the Raiders. How? Well simple, this position could only be taken by the Eagles (8-7) thanks to the calendar force tiebreaker criterion. With the victory of Las Vegas, the balance fell in favor of Dallas. They are currently at the No. 2 seed, waiting for the Packers to drop, while they will have to face a listless Cardinals this week.

For its part, Philadelphia did what it had to by beating the eliminated Giants (4-11) but did not reach. The consolation will be to reach somewhere in the wild card zone. At the moment they occupy a lukewarm 7 seed. This week they will have to play against Washington (6-9), who, after the loss, still have a chance to catch up with PHI. However, a loss implies elimination, unless the 49ers lose.

NFC North

After being crowned divisional champions and the first classified to the postseason, the Packers (12-3) did not slow down and got a new victory. They are close to achieving seeding 1, and to do so they depend on themselves. The next duels will be key. The problem is that next week they will receive the Vikings (7-8), who are still in the running for a spot on the Wild Cards. In the last week, they will have to play against Lions (2-12-1), a duel more than accessible for Green Bay.

For its part, Minnesota fell again after two victories, but is a game from the 7th seed. It is necessary that they win in their visit to GB, since a loss could leave them out. In turn, they must expect losses from the Eagles or 49ers in order to dream of a postseason.

NFC South

Everything necessary was given so that the Buccaneers (11-4) are the division winners. On the one hand, they beat the Panthers in a clear game (5-10) and left them out of the competition. Now, the Bucs need to win again so they don’t just keep the No. 4 seed and get a better place in divisional games. Now they will have to travel to New York for a simple game against the eliminated Jets and then they will have to beat Carolina again. A simple calendar if there are any.

On the other hand, Tampa Bay would have benefited from the defeat of the Saints (7-8) in the MNF. Despite this, New Orleans is still in the race, but needs losses from the Eagles or 49ers to improve its position. At the moment, they are one game away from these teams and will have to equalize the scores. The opportunity will be this week when they face the recently eliminated Panthers.

With the same brand, the Falcons (7-8) they keep the illusions. After a close victory against the Lions, this franchise must redouble its efforts in Buffalo to reach the final week with possibilities.

NFC West

The West is the only division that remains closed, although it may have an early definition. First of all, it should be mentioned that, after long weeks of dominance by Arizona, this division changed leaders. After four victories in a row, the Rams (11-4) have come forward and are going for more. They need a win in Baltimore and that the Cardinals (10-5) fall again to be crowned divisional champions. But they are also in fight for the top spot in the NFC. They are currently in the field 3, just one game away from the Packers.

On the other hand, with three losses in a row, the Cards already obtained the classification after the defeats of Vikings and Saints. They clearly need to bounce back to think they’ll have a good postseason. They will also have to do it to establish themselves as the best wild card. They are now at the No. 5 seed, but may fall if the Eagles or Niners win their games. This week they will meet in a difficult game against the Cowboys.

Lastly, the tight drop in 49ers (8-7) does not deprive them of illusions. At the moment they are the 6th seed in the NFC and need a win to be on the verge of the playoffs. This week, they will host the Texans in a decisive duel, as the last week they will have to travel to Los Angeles to clash with the current division leaders.

Conclusions towards Week 17

The Packers (12-3) continue to set trends in the NFC and want to stay with the No. 1 seed, but playing Minnesota is never easy. The Cowboys (11-4) and Buccaneers (11-4), seeded 2 and 4, are already in the postseason after winning their divisions. Now they want to compete for the first place in the Conference.

At the 3rd seed, momentarily are the Rams (11-4), who could make the division this week if the trend continues as in the past three weeks. Lower down in the wild-card zone, the Cardinals (10-5) have already clinched the postseason, but they can improve their placement by matching Los Angeles in the West.

The other sites are contested by six franchises. Those with the best advantages are the 49ers (8-7) and the Eagles (8-7) in positions 6 and 7. With a victory each, they eliminate Washington (6-9) and jeopardize the chances of Vikings (7 -8), Falcons (7-8) and Saints (7-8).
