Daniel Jones would not play in Week 14; Jake Fromm would start

Bad news for the Giants. This Monday, the QB Daniel Jones, who missed last week’s match against the Dolphins Due to a neck injury, he underwent further examinations to determine his status heading into the Week 14 game against the Chargers, as confirmed by the HC Joe JudgeHowever, the results were not very encouraging. Via Adam Schefter of ESPN, it is unlikely that Jones will be able to play this coming Sunday against Los Angeles.

However, the adversities do not end here for New York. The QB2 Mike Glennon, who was the starter in the loss to Miami in Week 13, is currently on concussion protocol, and there is a likelihood that he will have to be absent the following Sunday.

The above would leave the QB Jake Fromm, who came to the team last week from the Bills’ practice squad, as the only healthy quarterback on the active roster of 53. All indications by now that Fromm is in line to make his NFL debut. Meanwhile, the QB Brian Lewerke He is on the Giants’ practice squad, and if Jones and Glennon are confirmed absent, he should act as Fromm’s direct backup against Los Angeles. What would they aspire to in New York without the presence of Daniel Jones?

Stephon Gilmore talks about Patriots mishandling with injury

The news about Panthers they do not cease. The CB Stephon Gilmore, who came to the team last October from the Patriots, was expressed in an interview with Joseph Person of TheAthletic.com, on the different concerns he experienced during his last months in New England: “When you return to play, you want to rehabilitate yourself to play again,” said Gilmore regarding the way in which the Patriots, in his opinion, mishandled his injury from Quadriceps dating from December 2020:

“I felt that they were doing more training sessions than rehabilitation, more exercising like someone who was 100% healthy (…). But I was rehabbing, coming back from surgery. So that’s different (…). They were just making me run and lift far more loads than I was supposed to do. I’m happy with everything, they (Panthers) treated him well here and I’m on the right track. I feel good and better and better every week. And I feel safer ”.

In addition to the above, he also expressed complaints about how they behaved within New England a few days prior to the eventual trade they did with Carolina: “I show up there and they start with all the unnecessary things. Just before they changed me, I ran like 3,000 yards in three days (…). It’s like, why would you do all that before changing me? You don’t do that. Let me do it my way. I don’t know if they were trying to prove [la pierna] and see, I don’t know. I’m not the type of person who says, ‘Oh, I don’t want to do that.’ Hard work. I do my things. I think that was not good ”.

The situation between Gilmore and New England became problematic since in the previous offseason, the cornerback decided to do a holdout absent from training camps of the Patriots looking for a contract extension. However, this new agreement never came and both the organization and the player decided that it was best to separate their paths. Now, in 2021, Gilmore has 2 INTs, 2 passes defended and 9 tackles in 5 games played so far with the Panthers. What do you think about the statements issued by Gilmore?

Richard Sherman would transition to safety

Good news for the Buccaneers. This Monday at a press conference the HC Bruce Arians noted that there is a possibility that the CB Richard Sherman return to team training this week and be officially activated to the 53-roster in the near future. However, his return from Injured Reserve could bring about a position transition, and Sherman could become a safety:

“That is the beauty of having Sherm here, he is a veteran player who can play in many positions, “said Arians. “We will be evaluating this week to see if that is suitable for us.” Sherman has been on IR since sustaining a calf injury in warm-ups leading up to Tampa Bay’s game against Washington in Week 10 in mid-November, and his potential transition makes sense when looking closely at how the current Los Angeles roster looks like. Buccaneers.

Cornerbacks Carlton Davis, Jamel Dean and Sean Murphy-Bunting are finally healthy and ready to play together. However, in the safety position, Mike Edwards is suspended two more games for violating NFL COVID-19 protocols, while Jordan Whitehead is returning from a calf injury and did not play in Tampa Bay’s win over Atlanta the previous Sunday.

Therefore, the change of Sherman, 33, becomes a reasonable move, as it could become a pillar in a position where the Buccaneers do not stand out as their main strength. Also, going back to 2018, Sherman had already commented that “everyone makes the transition to safety“And that would be a way to keep playing football until at least 35 years of age. Will we see Sherman as a safety in the near future?

Keenan Allen, Jordan Love, and more moves in the COVID-19 Reserve

The coronavirus pandemic currently continues to rule the world, and this Monday, various players around the NFL landed in the COVID-19 Reserve. In this section we review the most important designations.

  • WR Keenan Allen, The Angels Chargers. Via Field Yates de ESPN, Allen was placed in the COVID-19 Reserve. His vaccination status is unknown, but if he is, he will be able to return to the active roster after two negative tests taken 24 hours apart. If he is not vaccinated and he tested positive, he will be out for 10 days, but if he was classified as a high-risk contact in 5 days he would be back. Allen leads the Chargers with 89 receptions and 929 yards in 2021, and now his Week 14 status is hanging by a thread.
  • QB Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers. Through a statement, the Packers announced that Love landed in the COVID-19 Reserve. Love is vaccinated, which would mean he tested positive and will now need two negative tests taken 24 hours apart to return to the active roster in less than 10 days. Meanwhile, QB Kurt Benkert is the only one within the Green Bay facility to act as a backup for Aaron Rodgers while Love is out.
  • C Evan Brown, Detroit Lions. Through a statement, the Lions announced that Brown was placed on the COVID-19 Reserve. Brown has started the team’s last eight games, replacing Frank Ragnow at center, who is out for the remainder of the 2021 NFL season after undergoing toe surgery. Brown’s vaccination status is unknown, so his procedures for an eventual return are the same as Keenan Allen’s.
  • Other Players Placed in the COVID-19 Pool: DE Cameron Jordan, New Orleans Saints; AND Trent Scott, Carolina Panthers; RB Jalen Richard, Las Vegas Raiders; LB A.J. Klein, Buffalo Bills; AND Wes Martin, New York Giants.

Deonte Harris suspended 3 games

In more NFL news, via Ian Rapoport from NFL Media, this Monday it was confirmed that the WR Deonte Harris, of the Saints, was suspended for three games after early November was sentenced to one year of probation for driving under the influence of alcohol last July.

The action taken by the league is not surprising. As established in the new 2020 collective bargaining agreement, suspensions for driving under the influence increased from two to three matches. Harris was appealing the decision made by the NFL, however, the measure was ratified this Monday, and now he could only return for Week 17, the last game of the year, when New Orleans hosts Carolina at home.

This is a disastrous loss for a Saints who have lost five straight games. Harris leads the team in 2021 with 523 receiving yards, as well as 31 receptions and 3 TDs. The third-year wide receiver came to New Orleans as an undrafted free agent in 2019, and has so far participated in 34 total meetings recording 57 receptions for 733 total yards and 4 TDs. How will his loss affect the Saints’ depleted offense?
