NBA launches advertising trade in training uniforms

The NBA has approved advertising for teams’ training uniforms. Now the launch came after a meeting of league team owners.

The training uniforms also include the warm-up shirt and jackets worn by the players on the bench.

All contracts must be approved by league management and are effective by 2022. Logos must be on the right sleeve or left chest. Dimensions are slightly smaller than match jersey sponsor.

It should be remembered that the NBA launched the entry of brands in game uniforms in 2017 and it was renewed at the beginning of this year after generating a good impact on the income of the franchise.

Teams like the New York Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors signed contracts worth around $ 20 million, depending largely on the regions in which the franchises are located. Currently, only the Memphis Grizzlies and Washington Wizards do not have jersey endorsements.

The movement to expand sponsoring by teams began last year. Major League Baseball (MLB), for example, is in an advanced process to allow the presence of sponsors on franchise jerseys in the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

Major League Soccer, for its part, has authorized teams to negotiate spaces in shorts as a way to compensate for the economic losses caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The NHL has already published the exhibit on helmets and uniforms.

In football, the initiative is old. Teams like Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid have separate agreements for the game and training kits.
