Álvaro Morata could be the pump for the winter market that will open on Monday, January 3. Xavi Hernández has requested the incorporation of the Madrid striker, whom he intends to turn into one of the pillars of Barça’s reconstruction. The Barça coach considers that his versatility, work capacity and smell make him the ideal footballer to finish off an offensive front that has already been reinforced with the signing of Ferran Torres and in which Ansu Fati is fixed, once the young man extreme overcome the physical problems that have prevented you from having the desired role so far this year.

The Spanish international, currently on loan from Atlético to Juventus, welcomes landing at Can Barça. But the three-way operation is not easy at all since, apart from reaching an agreement with the other two clubs involved, the Barça entity would have to substantially lower its salary mass to be able to register the attacker, Ferran Torres himself and Dani Alves. Joan Laporta, in any case, has an asset: Antoine Griezmann.

Xavi Hernández needs to raise Barça’s offensive potential as soon as possible to set the course in the League and fight for the Europa League. For this reason, the Egarense coach has set his sights on Morata, a forward who has proven to have dynamite to spare throughout his sports career. He has scored 131 goals and has distributed 57 assists in the 391 games he has played in the football elite wearing the jerseys of Real Madrid, Chelsea, Atlético and Juventus, to which he must add 23 goals and six goals in 50 games as an international with the Spanish team.

Morata already knows the interest of Barça because Xavi Hernández himself called him to see the availability he would have before an eventual offer from the Barça club. The reaction of the tip was favorable. His intention is to leave Juventus as soon as possible, where he has failed to succeed in his second stage as a bianconero, and sees the challenge of joining Barça as appealing. In this sense, he values the great interest that Xavi has shown in having his services and understands that he can continue to evolve as a culé.

The footballer’s predisposition is such that he would be willing to lower the net ten million euro chip that he receives in Juventus, an essential condition for Barça to be able to adjust to the strict rules on financial ‘fair play’ established by LaLiga. But for the signing to come to fruition, Laporta will have to part with several players with succulent salaries, since the registrations of Ferran Torres and Dani Alves also depend on it. Coutinho, Dest or Umtiti are some of the figures that are on the exit ramp, but their high salaries are a considerable obstacle for them to leave the city of Barcelona.

Griezmann’s trump card

Beyond these possible movements, Barça would have to face a significant outlay to sign the signing of Morata. The forward continues to belong to Atlético, which in September 2020 he transferred to Juventus in exchange for 10 million euros and renewed the loan last summer under the same conditions. The ‘Vecchia Signora’ also kept a purchase option for 35 million euros that would have to be paid in the summer of 2022, but the delicate economic situation that the Piedmontese entity is going through makes its execution difficult.

That’s where Griezmann’s figure comes in. The world champion with France left Barça in the summer to return to Atlético on loan and lighten the high salary of the Barça club. The clubs agreed to a loan for one year, extendable to another, and set a purchase option for the rojiblancos worth 40 million euros. In this way, Laporta could pay for the signing of Morata with the definitive sale of Griezmann to Atlético. Something that, a priori, would satisfy all parties.

Beyond its competitive impact, the possible arrival of Morata to Barça would represent a new shot of illusion for the ailing Barça parish and would add morbidity to the League, since it could become the third footballer to wear the shirts of Real Madrid, Atlético and Barça, after Miquel Soler and Bernd Schuster.
