El idiom de Michael Jordan with golf dates back many years and in its beginning it was linked to the member of the Hall of Fame of this sport, Ed Ibarguen, who since 1988 has been linked to Duke University. But curiously, before making the leap to Duke, Ibarguen’s most famous student belonged to a rival university of this, the one of Carolina of the North.

That happened when he worked in the field at UNC Finley. One of the players on the basketball team wanted to learn to play golf. “I was in the right place at the right time when Michael Jordan became interested in golf,” Ibarguen told Golf Digest. NC coach Dean Smith was the go-between between the two.

“Michael walked into the pro shop and asked, ‘Are you Ed Ibagoogen?’ “I’m Ed Ibarguen,” replied the coach. Of course, at that time no one could imagine how far that boy would later go in the world of basketball. “He was excited, but he said, ‘We might have a problem. I don’t have money to pay you.”, said MJ to whom he was going to be his mentor.

He asked Jordan: “Are you serious about learning or do you come to waste your time?”. The 23rd was very clear, as Ibarguen recalls: “I really like this sport and I want to learn to play it the right way”. Ibarguen, of course, has a privileged testimony when it comes to talking about MJ, before he was a great world star. “He just fell in love with this sport. It was night, he had 36 holes and he wanted to keep playing.”, recalls.

Among the singularities that the coach highlights with respect to Michael, he comments: “I think the hardest thing he had to overcome was that he has very big hands.. In Ping they told me that the grips they put on Jordan’s clubs were the largest they had ever put on a golf club, “he says. He also highlights that the 23 “He visualizes blows very well and has an amazing ability to imitate”. MJ is currently a 1.2 handicap.
