Mathias Boe Attacks BWF After Many WOs in BWF World Tour Finals

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —

Danish badminton player Mathias Boe has criticized BWF after a number of athletes decided to leave the club BWF World Tour Finals 2021 due to injury.

Two players from the singles sector, Kento Momota and Rasmus Gemke first decided to walkover from the tournament. Momota has problems with his back, while Gemke has problems with his knees.

Next, it was Yeo Jia Min’s turn from the women’s singles and men’s doubles sector in India, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty also decided to withdraw.

The decision to withdraw from a fellow athlete from the 2021 BWF World Tour Finals was highlighted by Boe. The 41-year-old badminton player said BWF did not care about the athlete’s physical condition.

“BWF what do you expect from demanding players to continue playing for 3 months in a row? Do you care about their situation? Of course not,” wrote Boe on his Twitter account.

Boe also made criticism on his Instagram account. According to Boe, the tournament schedule set by BWF after the pandemic was unnatural, making badminton a victim.

Boe also admitted that he was surprised that two BWF officials, namely Thomas Lund and Poul Erik-Hoyer Larsen, were former badminton players. Both are considered Boe should understand that a busy schedule will potentially harm athletes.

“Since athletes who criticize BWF will be sanctioned, I will speak on their behalf. The post-pandemic tournament schedule is insane and this is the result. Injuries are inevitable,” he wrote on Instagram.

“It’s hard to understand the mindset of Lund and Hoyer when they were the world’s top players. They must have suffered injuries due to the tournament schedule being too busy,” he added.
