Masayuki Uemura, the engineer who created the Nintendo and Super Nintendo, passes away

Sad news has taken over the world of video games, and it is that according to various Japanese media announced, at the age of 78 he died, Masayuki Uemura, engineer responsible for the creation of the Nintendo and Super Nintendo.

Uemura was born in 1943 and joined the Nintendo team in 1972, where he led the team in charge of creating an arcade game machine that would allow playing from the home television, that is, the Nintendo Entertainment System. Years later, in 1988, Uemara began work on the console’s successor, the Super Nintendo.

Later in 1995, together with his team, they worked on the launch of Satellaview, the Super Nintendo accessory, which would allow content to be downloaded via satellite transmission.

Uemara also served as a video game producer, some of the titles he produced were Soccer, Baseball, Golf, Clu Clu Land, as well as the classic Ice Climber.

Uemara retired in 2004, and served as a counselor in Nintendo’s research department as well as a university professor.
