The Cantal Occitan Coordination and Exchange Association (ACEOC) recently held its general assembly at the Ostal del Telh to take stock of the year 2020 and outline the prospects for the future.

After a year 2020 shaken up by the Covid epidemic, the association tried to maintain some activities, depending on the “windows of fire” allowed by the health context: show around the work of Marcelle Delpastre, inauguration of the media library from the IEO, presentation of the new edition of “Chansons d’Auvergne” and presentation of “Mots crosats” from the Convise.

Occitan dictation

Organized just before the first confinement, the traditional Dictada Occitana brought together nearly 150 people across the department. In total, around twenty events had to be canceled due to the various lockdowns.

However, the association remained mobilized in order to continue to build a unifying project around the Ostal del Telh. Thus in three years, the number of member associations (tenants or simple users of the place) has more than doubled, from ten to 25 today.

ACEOC, what is this?

The Occitan Coordination and Exchange Association (ACEOC) is the unifying tool for actors in the Occitan language and culture, responsible for managing the Ostal del Telh in Aurillac. It aims to promote common work and exchanges between associations and to constitute a center of Occitan resources. ACEOC organizes the Dictada occitana every year, coordinates the Fèsta del Telh and now offers a cultural season throughout the year at the Ostal del Telh.

Cultural mediator

In order to animate the Ostal del Telh, a request for funding of a position of cultural mediator was submitted in 2020 to Fonjep (Youth Cooperation and Popular Education Fund), which resulted in the beginning of year 2021 on the recruitment of Florent Pons.

This recruitment has already made it possible to energize the Ostal del Telh through the mobilization of new volunteers, the establishment of a cultural season and the reflection around partnerships and original entertainment projects. The challenge for the next few years will be to continue structuring the Ostal del Telh, in particular through the recruitment of a managerial administrator shared between the member associations.

“This structuring is essential in order to offer the most complete possible offer around the Occitan language and culture, in conjunction with our member associations, whether in terms of extracurricular activities, linguistic resources or cultural practices”, emphasizes Jean-Pierre Malichier, President of ACEOC.

ACEOC also continued to mobilize elected officials from the Aurillac basin around the promotion of Occitan culture: during the 2020 municipal elections, around twenty candidates were thus able to be met.

Different mobilizations

ACEOC also organized a meeting with members of the Congress, with the aim of forging close links with this interregional association specializing in digital tools for the dissemination of the Occitan language.

The association has also joined the collective “So that our languages live” in order to mobilize around the teaching of Occitan and to support the implementation of the Molac law, which provides measures to protect and promote regional languages in three areas: heritage, education and public services.
