Luca Brecel puts seed Stephen Maguire aside without mercy | Snooker

The UK Championship seems cursed for the top 10, because after Robertson, Trump, Selby and Ding, among others, Maguire must now also pack.

That last exit was almost entirely the credit of Brecel, who treated him to a bulb wash.

Against the Schot, the tournament winner of 2004 and runner-up of 2007 and 2019, one high break (50 in the second frame) was enough.

For a place in the quarterfinals of the most important ranking tournament after the World Cup, Brecel will face the winner of the game between Ricky Walden (WS-24) and Anthony Hamilton (WS-56). Brecel has already climbed to at least 32nd place in the world ranking.

Brecel would equal his best result with a quarterfinal. He reached that stage in 2012 with his debut and did it again in 2016.
