On Tuesday he put his critique under an indefinite contract, today Bernd Storck really starts his adventure as coach of KRC Genk. His first assignment will immediately be a crucial one, Thursday evening’s Europa League match against Rapid Wien. Follow Storck’s first day and the preview of the game closely here.

  • Storck on practice field for the first time

Bernd Storck also started early on the field. Half an hour before the official start (10.30am) of the training – the first quarter is open to the media according to UEFA rules – the players already started the pre-activation and warming up. Carlos Cuesta, who had to be substituted at half time after an unfortunate collision on Sunday, went full steam ahead, just like his teammates. • Third Belgian club

Bernd Storck is not ready for his test piece at KRC Genk in Belgium. He was previously at the helm of Mouscron and Cercle Brugge in our country. The Hainaut were in last place in September 2018, with zero out of eighteen, when Storck replaced Frank Defays. Storck put things in order, both on and off the site. Not only did he take points, but over time he also managed to make Mouscron swing between the lines. It was the revelation of the return round.

Exactly one year later, Storck also faced a seemingly impossible assignment at Cercle. The Association had barely collected three points from ten matches when the German trainer took over from Frenchman Fabien Mercadal. However, he also kept Cercle in first.

Remarkable: every time Storck chose a new challenge over an extended contract. At Mouscron he led 36 games, at Cercle barely nineteen. It shows how far the German’s ambitions reach. In the past few months and years, Storck has been linked to clubs from the Jupiler Pro League. Standard, Beerschot, AA Gent, Club Brugge and… STVV last summer. But he didn’t just accept every offer.

  • Storck leads first training at 10.30 am

Bernd Storck leads his first training session as coach of KRC Genk at 10.30 am. At 12.15 pm he addresses the media at the official press conference, the day before the capital Europa League match against Rapid Wien. This preview is followed by his official presentation and Head of Football Dimitri de Condé explains the choice for the German.

The start for Storck promises to be tough in any case. Thursday evening it will be all or nothing in Europe against Rapid Wien, on which he can expect a triptych AA Gent (away) – Charleroi (home) – Antwerp (home) on Sunday-Thursday-Sunday. On Boxing Day, KRC Genk will close 2021 with the move to Ostend.
