Leipzig beats Manchester City, with De Bruyne, to play Europa League

The Germans will play the Europa League. On City’s side, Kevin De Bruyne played 87 minutes. Manchester City were already assured of the first place in the group, while Leipzig competed with Club Brugge for third place, which allows the European adventure to continue, but in another competition. The Germans started with a slight advantage over the Brugeois thanks to direct clashes (1-2 victory for Bruges and 0-5 for Leipzig).

The Germans, led by interim coach Achim Beierlorzer, opened the scoring thanks to Dominik Szoboszlai (24th). André Silva (71st) doubled the lead in the second half. Riyad Mahrez (77th) closed the gap. Excluded, Kyle Walker (83rd) left City ten at the end of the game.

For his first tenure since his contamination with covid-19, Kevin De Bruyne remained in the field for 87 minutes before being replaced by Cole Palmer.

City finished at the top of the group with 12 points. PSG, who dominated Brugge 4-1, follow with 11. Leipzig finished third with 7 points, three more than Brugge.

Manchester City and PSG will play in the knockout stages of the Champions League. Leipzig will continue his journey in the Europa League, where he will meet a club ranked second in this competition, in a “jump-off” to advance to the knockout stages.
