* Le Castellet – The sports judoka C. Devictor of the year *

Chloé Devictor on November 6 in Hyères. She was invited with the Olympic team champion, Guillaume Chaine, to the Judo Days organized by the Dojo des Îles d’Or.

Born in La Seyne-sur-Mer, trained in Castellet, Judoka Chloé Devictor, 19, experienced a thunderous 2021 season punctuated by the title of junior world champion (-52kg) won on October 6. Currently on vacation in Guadeloupe, she reacts to this new distinction awarded by the readers of Var-matin and tells about her crazy year.

A break in turquoise blue waters. At the end of an exhausting and hectic year 2021, which will have seen her explode on the international scene, Chloé Devictor is currently enjoying a deserved vacation in Guadeloupe, with her relatives. After a first dive and before resuming training next Monday at Insep and then continuing with the Grand Slam in Paris 2022 (February 5-6), she answered our questions, with birdsong ( necessarily paradise) in the background.

You have just been elected Var sportsman of the year 2021. Your reaction?

It’s nice to know that you are supported, that the people in your department are following you and supporting you. it gives strength for the future!

What do you do during your vacation in Guadeloupe?

These are my only vacation of the year so I take this opportunity to rest. I cut off with judo for two weeks and on the second part of the vacation, I’m starting to miss it. With my father (Olivier), we continue to do physical preparation sessions that my club trainer (Force Longjumeau Alliance Massy 91) sent me to keep me in shape.

Do you miss judo after a week, really?

I train twice a day all year round so when, suddenly, you don’t do any more at all, it creates a lack. The cut feels good but I can’t wait to leave. We can say that it’s a good sign (laughs)!

Chloé Devictor became junior world champion on October 6 in Olbia (Sardinia). Luc Boutria / Nice Matin.

Let’s take a look back at your incredible season. Do you consider that everything starts from the national test-match in June?

The start of the year was a bit complicated. I joined Insep in September 2020 and I did not compete to find out where I was and if I had progressed because several tournaments were canceled. My first competition was therefore the national test match in June. I won it and it’s true that it opened the doors to the European Cup in Prague and then Bucharest (she had done the one in Sarajevo with her club). The selection for the European Championships was made according to the results of these three tournaments. I am second and I qualify for the world championships.

That you win by beating the Italian Giula Carna in the final, at home, but it was not easy …

I lost to her in the Bucharest final. You should not move forward on it because it is explosive with rotational movements. The solution was to put my left arm up because it scared her and she made a lot of mistakes. You had to be patient.

What emotion provoked this major title?

When I won, I didn’t realize it at all. Because of the Covid, all my friends from the France team were not allowed to come. There was no audience, we could just hear the coaches screaming. I leave the fight, I am hugged but I do not understand. Afterwards, I get on the podium, the coaches sing the Marseillaise and I also sing. There, I started to realize a little but I was still in the dark. I understood that I had won a competition but I could hardly believe it was the world championships.

You must have realized by having your loved ones on the phone …

My coaches and my parents called me, lots of friends left me messages and in the evening, when I got back to the hotel, I said to myself: “oh yes, anyway …” But I I really realized when I came back to France and people said to me: “Chloe, you are the world champion!” Ah yes, shit … It’s not wrong!

And with hindsight?

It is unique. It’s a feeling that I would like to experience again many times. You laugh, you cry with joy. It’s a crazy thing. it will remain engraved. I will never forget him!

How did you experience the post-title? Could it be exhilarating as well as paralyzing because you are going to be expected even more?

Already, after the Europe, I was eagerly awaited in the Worlds and after the Worlds, I was eagerly awaited at the Grand Slam in Paris. It’s weird because you see 25, 26 year old athletes looking at you and saying to themselves: “the little youngster over there is the junior world champion”. For me, it’s only more to have won but you have to keep the same dynamic and not stay too much on your achievements. This season has given me a lot of confidence but I know I expected more. I’ll have to continue working as I did to get this title because I don’t want just one!

What are your objectives for this year 2022?

First the Grand Slam in Paris in February. We are four French women selected: Astride Gneto, Anaïs Mosdier (also from Var, trained in Solliès-Toucas) and Amandine Buchard (the Olympic vice-champion). With us alone, the level is super high! After that, I still have a junior year left. I would like to win the Europe and regain the World so to do the double! And then make my place in senior. I don’t want to be extras, but to go get medals.

Do you have Olympic dreams?

Yes of course because any judoka who evolves at a high level dreams of a selection and an Olympic medal. It is the culmination of a career.
