Nuis, who took gold twice in Pyeongchang three years ago, has to get a place in the top 3 at the last distance. The biggest competitors for this are Thomas Krol, who won the 1000 meters on Wednesday, and Patrick Roest, who already secured starting tickets in the 5000 and 10,000 meters. Finally, it remains to be seen whether Koen Verweij can provide a surprise.
Women 5000 meters
Before the men start the 1500 meters, the women first ride the 5000 meters at 5.55 pm. Irene Schouten is the absolute favourite. With the cancellation of Antoinette de Jong, there is still an exciting battle for the starting tickets, especially because the second starting place means an almost certain delegation for the Games.
