Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon not competing in BWF World Tour Finals today after Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty resigned.
Rankireddy/Shetty decided to resign so that all their results obtained at the 2021 BWF World Tour Finals were deleted and not considered. Rankireddy/Shetty will not play in the last match when they are scheduled to face Lee Yang/Wang Chi Lin.
This also had an impact on the inaugural match between Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen versus Rankireddy/Shetty which ended with a score of 21-16, 21-5. Astrup/Rasmussen’s victory was considered non-existent.
Thus, Kevin/Marcus so far has only officially bagged one victory, namely over Lee/Wang.
The duel for the two semifinal tickets of the BWF World Tour Finals 2021 is now only fought by the Minions, Astrup/Rasmussen, and Lee/Wang.
Astrup/Rasmussen will face Lee/Wang today while the Minions duel against Astrup/Rasmussen will take place on Friday (3/12).
Kevin/Marcus themselves are among the players who have undergone a series of solid tournaments since September. After competing in the Sudirman Cup and Thomas Cup, Kevin/Marcus took part in a series of three tournaments in Europe followed by three tournaments in Bali with a gap of only a week between the two series.
The Minions also still have to prepare for the 2021 World Championship which will take place on 12-19 December.
