Jose Wilkson Says Farewell to Persebaya Surabaya

Persebaya Surabaya was left by one of its foreign legions ahead of the second round of Liga 1 2021/22 after the Brazilian player bid farewell to Bajul Ijo.

Wilkson was brought in by Persebaya to fill the front line of Bajul Ijo in the 2021/22 season. Wilkson’s presence is expected to replace David Da Silva, who left for Malaysian club Terengganu FC last year.

Wilkson has featured in 13 games this season, one of them from the bench. The 32-year-old has contributed six goals and two assists throughout the first round.

In the last few days, rumors of Wilkson leaving Persebaya have sprung up. However, Wilkson did not reveal his reason for leaving Surabaya in his farewell post.

“Thank you for everything Persebaya Surabaya, thank you for your support Bonek and Bonita. Success always,” wrote Wilkson on his personal Instagram account.

Previously, a number of Persebaya players, such as Satria Tama, Arif Satria, Ady Setyawan and Reva Adi Utama, had also bid farewell to Wilkson which the player uploaded to his personal Instagram story.

Wilkson’s departure has sparked new speculation about foreign players as his replacement. The spearhead from the Netherlands, Arsenio Valpoort, is now associated with The Green Force. Valpoort was last recorded as a player for the highest caste club in the Albanian league, KF Egnatia.

Meanwhile, coach Aji Santoso is reluctant to talk about players leaving and entering the club. According to him, it is management, because he has discussed the matter.

Aji is now only focused on preparing his team for the second round. However, Persebaya will first undergo a postponed first round match against Bali United on January 5, 2022.

In its preparation, Persebaya has undergone two trial matches. After beating Liga 3 club Belitong FC in the Gelora Bung Tomo (GBT) complex field 3-1, today Bajul Ijo beat NZR Sumbersari 2-0 at the same place.

“Today’s trial is the last test because we don’t have time. These two trials are of course to restore touch at the competitive level after we had a long holiday,” said Aji.
