New positive in Barcelona that comes to complicate even more the panorama of Xavi Hernandez ahead of the league game this coming weekend. The Barça club has confirmed the contagion of Jordi Alba, who joins in this way Dani Alves y Clement Lenglet, also affected by the coronavirus after this sixth wave so virulent. There have been three players in less than 24 hours who have been infected, while so far only two cases had been detected in five months (Umtiti in August 2020 and Sergi Roberto in December of the same year).

Xavi Hernández has the infirmary full, since in addition to these three cases of Covid, he has four more injured: Ansu Fati, Pedri, Memphis, Braithwaite y Sergi Roberto.

None of them will be able to travel to Mallorca to play the game on Sunday. And they are added Busquets and Gavi, sanctioned for accumulating yellow cards. Morocco’s call for Abde to play the Africa Cup further complicates the situation of the Catalan coach, who will be able to have the winger in Son Moix but will lose him a few days later.

Barcelona has issued a statement in which it explains that the three players who have tested positive are confined to their private homes and are “in good health”. The Catalan club and the affected footballers must now comply with the League’s protocol for this type of situation and must remain isolated for a minimum of 10 days, which is why they will not be able to travel to Mallorca. Alba’s loss is perhaps the most serious, since he is the only left-back he has and will have to improvise an emergency solution. It must be remembered that the League has designed a new, much more demanding protocol in which all teams must undergo daily antigen tests and weekly PCR during the first fifteen days of the year, in addition to extreme measures on match days, both local teams and those who have to move.
