The team has only made the playoffs once since 2002 and right now they don’t have a long-term coach. Former wide receiver and Hall of Famer Jerry Rice was part of the last Raiders team to win a postseason game and has weighed in on who the next coach should be.
Rice believes the team should choose an unconventional option as he has named his former teammate and also a Hall of Famer, Tim Brown, like the one indicated.
“I think Tim Brown would be ideal for the Raiders,” Rice told Heavy. “He was the reason I crossed to the other side of the bay. I admired him a lot, not only because of his ability, but because he is a great person. I think Tim Brown would be ideal for all he knows about the sport and for his ability to get players to support him and for all that he can do.
The Raiders have been consistent in giving coaching positions to their former players in the past. We have seen former players like Art Shell and Tom Flores become head coaches. They have also employed other former players as positional coaches such as Rod Woodson, James Lofton, Willie Brown, and many more. However, Brown does not have any coaching experience, neither at the college level nor at the professional level.
There may be an opportunity down the road for him to be part of a coaching staff as a wide receiver coach, but it would be highly unorthodox for the Raiders to hire him as head coach at the end of the season. Shell and Flores were positional coaches before becoming head coaches.
Rice thinks Bisaccia is doing a “fantastic” job
There is a lot of speculation about who it will be the next Raiders head coach, but it is still possible that the interim coach, Rich Bisaccia, I kept the position. Rice likes the idea of Tim Brown having a shot, but has also impressed him with how Bisaccia has taken over the team.
“The players really appreciate it,” Rice said of Bisaccia. “It seems that the players support him. What happened to the Raiders was very hard, and he put the team on his shoulder and I think he’s doing a fantastic job. But the decision to make him the permanent coach of the Las Vegas Raiders will be theirs. ”
Bisaccia got off to a great start by winning his first as coach of the Raiders. Since then, they have lost four of five games. He’ll need a good end to the season if he hopes to remove the interim tag from his title.
