Investigation of the effect of basketball classification referees’ communication skills on problem solving processes

summary

In this study, it was investigated whether the communication skills of basketball classification referees have an effect on their problem solving skills. The sample of the research consists of 186 referees from basketball classification referees who took active duty in the 2019-2020 season. The data were obtained using the scale on the basis of the quantitative research model. Communication Skills Scale (Korkut Owen & Bugay, 2014), Problem Solving Scale (Heppner & Petersen, 1982; cited by Şahin, Şahin & Heppner, 1993) and Personal Information Form are included in the research. The communication skill scale used in the study was found to be highly reliable (.909) and the problem-solving scale was found to be reliable (.746). SPSS 22 program was used in the analysis of the data obtained in the research. After obtaining the frequencies of the data, frequency, normality, independent samples t-test, one-way variance, correlation and regression analyzes were performed, respectively. Relationships between the demographic information of the referees participating in the research and their communication skills and problem solving skills were sought. Significant differences were found between the communication skills and problem solving skills of the basketball referees who participated in the research. A significant and positive relationship was found between basketball referees’ communication skills and all sub-dimensions of problem solving scales. As a result, it was seen that as the communication skills of the basketball referees participating in the research increased, their problem solving skills also increased.
