Hugo Maradona, Diego’s brother, died at the age of 52

Diego Maradona’s younger brother Hugo died Tuesday, December 28, in Naples, the Neapolitan football club announced on its website. “Hugo Maradona is dead”, a little more than a year after the disappearance of the Argentinian genius of football, soberly wrote Napoli in a press release.

The president of the club, Aurelio De Laurentiis, and the team “Gather around the family of Maradona and unite with her in the pain caused by Hugo’s disappearance”, add the text.

The club thus confirms information from the Italian media according to which the youngest of the Maradona siblings succumbed to a heart attack. This father of three living in Miami (Florida) was declared dead when help arrived at his home in Monte di Procida, in the Neapolitan metropolitan area.

Former footballer, coach and candidate for municipal elections

A former football player, he had evolved in Italy, Austria, Spain, Argentina and Japan, before returning to Italy to settle there permanently and embrace a brief career as a coach in Neapolitan amateur clubs. He had, moreover, recently presented himself on a right-wing list in the municipal elections, finally won by the left.

In 1987, he was barely of age when he arrived in the large southern port city, recruited by Napoli, before being loaned to Ascoli. On September 20 of the same year, the two brothers faced each other in a game that Napoli won 2-1, the daily recalled. The Corriere del Mezzogiorno.
