HIGÜEY, LA ALTAGRACIA.- Version 45 of the Superior Basketball Tournament of La Altagracia province will open its curtains tonight, at the Leo Tavárez sports center, in this city, with a special dedication to President Luis Abinader.
The actions begin at 6:30 in the afternoon with a first match between the San José and San Francisco teams, to then give way to the opening ceremony, and at the end, the meeting between the Antonio Guzmán and Centro clubs, At 8:00 pm.
In the fair of the city Salvaleón de Higüey, and the oldest contest in the Dominican Republic, two other teams participate: Savica and Cambelén, to complete six.
Organized by the Basketball Association of La Altagracia Province (Abapa), chaired by Jorge Leonardo Tavárez, and an Organizing Committee headed by Dr. Virgilio Cedano.
The details of the event were offered last Monday at a press conference held at L´Monani Restaurant, with the presence of the mayor of the Municipality of Higüey, Dr. Rafael Barón Duluc, Dr. Virgilio Cedano, Jorge Leonardo Tavárez and the governor of La Altagracia province, Martina Pepén Santana.
Cedano and Tavárez assured that as preventive measures against Covid-19, people must show their vaccination card, with at least two doses and the use of masks will be mandatory, and for which the presence of the Ministry of Public Health was requested inspectors to enforce the measures.
“It’s already 45 years of basketball, we are almost five decades old, this passion and love for basketball remains alive like the first day, Higüey is basketball, it is a condition for enjoying Christmas in our town, which have a superior tournament, because as they say, there is no Christmas without basketball ”added Tavárez Valdez.
He added that the commitment inherited by all the great men who have passed through the basketball association, does not allow them to faint at work year after year, on the path of advancement and growth.
