Harder was the fall

The Marino de Luanco lived one afternoon in Segovia to forget. The team could not continue with its streak of results, after three consecutive victories, and was defeated against Segoviana by a resounding 4-1, against a direct rival in the league and that in the particular goal-average leaves the pulse between both quite uneven in the event of a hypothetical tie on points at the end of the league.

The Luanquín team started the game with a very compact 5-3-2 start, alternating at the start of the ball Guille Pinín and César Suárez. The goal was immediate, in the tenth minute it came in an individual play by Diego Díaz, who beat Carmona with a shot at the long post. Everything was going with a favorable wind for the Marino. The Segoviana felt the nerves to be seen below the scoreboard and the visitor pressure caused problems to get the ball played from behind. At times, even the local fans were upset to see how their players did not advance looking for the opposing goal.

With the passing of the minutes, the Marino was backing down further, in a low block that was looking for the exit to the counter. La Segoviana monopolized the ball for longer and longer. And he began to prowl the area of three quarters of the field, arriving the first times on Buru’s goal. In the 27th minute, the Asturian goalkeeper stopped Arribas’s shot. The first half did not have much offensive production on the part of both teams. Minutes later came the answer against Steven, which was solved very efficiently by Manu, who stole the ball.

When it seemed that the game was going to go to the intermission with the visitor advantage, the blow came. Manu burst into the right area of the area and beat Buru with a subtle shot. The goal was going to be a before and after for the clash. After the intermission, Sego came out with a very different mood and found a penalty, quite rigorous, since the defender had his hand close to his body. The maximum penalty was transformed by Cidoncha, who cheated on Marino’s keeper.

The comeback was a fact and put the Luanquinos on the edge of the abyss. The Marino was very weak defensively and at the time of getting the ball played. La Segoviana had a much higher rhythm of play and that translated into the arrival of 3-1, in a Mansour header from a corner. El Marino no longer had options and saw Sego round the score in the last minute with a goal from Gomez, the local striker, who reappeared after seven months injured.

Manel Menendez | Marine Coach

“We were wrong to back down”

Marino’s coach, Manel Menéndez, stressed that “we started the game quite well. In the first arrival the goal came. When Segoviana monopolized the ball, we backed off, and there we made a little mistake ”.

“The tying goal with one minute to go was key,” added Manel, who believes that “the penalty has changed everything because we had to change the system. In the First or Second Division, that penalty would not have been called. It is a hand that is not detached from the body. The referee has interpreted otherwise ”.

Manel regretted that the game did not develop as planned: “Our idea was to have more possession of the ball. If you leave them the ball, you have to be chasing ”. Regarding the future, he indicated that “you have to beat Coruxo.”

The Gimnástica Segoviana coach, Manu González, stressed that the Marino “plays very withdrawn, looking for the opponent’s error and going against it. They know how to read the game well. Things looked bad with his goal so fast. Being patient was the key. You had to try to get outside. Manu’s goal was psychological, it gave us a lot of confidence. By playing with four defenders, this has made things much easier for us ”.

“Everyone on this team is very disciplined,” González praised his players. “It is a round victory. The strength of competing with Mallorca in the Cup has made us overcome the match by being patient. I hope this is one more step on the road we are doing ”.
