Great anticipation for Gasol’s debut

The debut, this Friday, of Marc Gasol with the Girona Basketball shirt has raised great expectations, to the point that the club has already sold almost a thousand advance tickets. This is a figure hitherto unheard of and allows foreshadowing a great entrance to Fontajau to watch a match against Huesca (19h) where the Girona side are only worth breaking the streak of seven consecutive defeats to start looking up. Since the announcement that the pivot would play this season in Girona, Bàsquet Girona has had a rise in both members and subscribers, as well as when it comes to selling tickets for matches or looking for sponsors. An expectation that must now be reaffirmed with triumphs.

This season the Girona Basketball matches in Fontajau have had an average of just over 1,000 spectators. The club has about 1,200 members, and if these are added to the thousand advance seats sold, the pavilion would be close to halfway (the old youth stand is not used and the capacity is around of 4,500 seats). The forecast is also that many fans will wait until the last minute to buy their ticket and, therefore, it would not be strange to end up with more than 3,000 people in the pavilion, which would be the best ticket in the history of Bàsquet Girona since its foundation.

In fact, taking a look at the club’s website in the section on locations for the next match, you can already see that the main blocks, the central ones, are practically sold out, and now what needs to be completed is the area background, basically. Friday’s match will not only be Marc Gasol’s debut with Bàsquet Girona, 13 years after his last official match in Fontajau with Akasvayu, but it will also be the first of the new coach Jordi Sargatal as a local, after having debuted with a defeat in overtime in the visit to Gipuzkoa. As usual, there will be a children’s area with games that must be booked through the app, and the merchandise store.

Els Bàsquet Girona already knows the path that awaits them in this final stretch of the year. After receiving Huesca on Friday, there will be a match in Palencia on Friday 10 December (9pm), and a week later, on the 17th, the team will return to Fontajau to receive another direct rival from the lower zone, Palma (19h). It will be played on Tuesday 21 in Oviedo, and a week later, on the 28th, in Lleida. The team will not appear again for Fontajau until Sunday 9 January, coinciding with Girona-Melilla (6pm).
