Good news for Leclerc after huge crash in free practice

The second free practice session in Saudi Arabia came to an end earlier than planned after Charles Leclerc lost control of his Ferrari car entering Turn 22 and came to a hard stop in the wall.

The blow was huge and his Ferrari was badly damaged. The Monegask was apparently able to get out unharmed, but had to go with the Formula 1 doctors, who examined him extensively.

They came with good news, because Leclerc can compete again in Jeddah for the rest of the weekend. “He has passed all routine checks and has been cleared by doctors to resume racing,” the team said.

A new chassis for Leclerc?

Charles Leclerc was driving around at the time of his crash with a brand new chassis, which he had received in Qatar after qualifying. Ferrari is looking to replace it.

Should that be the case, he will get his previous chassis back, which has been repaired after the damage sustained in Qatar. It is also questionable whether his engine and gearbox survived the impact. In any case, there will be plenty of work for the Monegask crew.

Update: Ferrari announces that the chassis and engine have emerged from the battle undamaged and can be put back into service on Saturday.
