Gold for Puerto Rico in the 3×3 basketball of the Youth Pan American Games

The men’s 3×3 basketball team closed its participation in the I Pan American Junior Games Cali 2021 with a gold medal against Venezuela.

Adrián Ocasio, Leandro Allende, Luis Daniel Cuascut and Luis Rivera were dominant in the tournament, with comfortable victories against the British Virgin Islands (21-5) and Colombia (21-2); and decisive against Uruguay (18-160 in the quarterfinals and the Dominican Republic (21-19) in the semifinal. Their only defeat in the preliminary series was against Venezuela (21-20), which they dispatched 20-18 in the contest for the gold medal.

The team played its last games with one less player, when since Friday Rivera had to settle for watching the games from the stands after being injured by the man after an unsportsmanlike foul in the game against Colombia that was not called by the referees.

“Not being able to be there is really a big pain, because I spent a lot of time spending time with them in practice. It was a long process. Something very nice. This is something that happened to me and it was not in my control. Up there I motivated the fans and got on the court, “Rivera said yesterday before the game for the gold medal.

Rivera lost his final “shoot out” tournament to which he classified in second position.
