Bayern Munich have beaten Wolfsburg 4-0 in the Bundesliga. Koen Casteels, Sebastiaan Bornauw and Aster Vranckx all started at Wolfsburg, but could not avoid their ninth defeat in a row. Wolfsburg thus remains stuck in the right column of the German competition. Robert Lewandowski, on the other hand, broke Gerd Müller’s record set in 1972. With 43 goals, the Polish super striker now has the most goals ever in a single calendar year in the Bundesliga.
The last time Wolfsburg was able to beat Bayern Munich again, Kevin De Bruyne and Bas Dost played at die Wölfe. Already from August 1, 2015 (!) During the final of the German Supercup, it has been since Bayern went down again against Wolfsburg. Wolfsburg also needed penalties for it. Since then, Wolfsburg has not been successful.
Also in Friday evening’s competition game, Bayern showed once again how the value ratios have been over the past six years. Thomas Müller made it 1-0 after six minutes. Koen Casteels was able to stop a long shot from Gnabry, but Müller mercilessly tapped the rebound. In the replay it became clear that it was Sebastiaan Bornauw who lifted the offside trap for his team, allowing Müller to take advantage. Aster Vranckx, the third Belgian in the base at Wolfsburg, was also unable to leave his mark on the match. He put his body well every now and then and showed some attacking impulses in the end, but he couldn’t prevent his team from going under again.
Wolfsburg could barely keep up with the ball due to the high pressure that Bayern developed. Without the Rekordmeister having to go all out, he quickly claimed possession of the ball. However, that did not provide many great opportunities for the home team. Wolfsburg therefore remained in the game thanks to the small deficit. Weghorst even missed the goal twice. The first time he couldn’t get past Neuer at close range. The second time he couldn’t deviate a good cross as it should. So it remained 1-0 in the first half.
Casteels knocked four times
Before the hour, Bayern doubled the score. Upamecano completed a great attack by the home team and outwitted Casteels with a header. A few minutes later, Casteels had to turn around again. This time Sané curled the 3-0 into goal.
The signal for Wolfsburg coach Florian Kohfeldt to bring in Felix Nmecha. The little brother of the injured Lukas (ex-Anderlecht) was allowed to try to create some threat, but barely succeeded. Casteels liked Lewandowski on the other side of a goal with a good leg reflex, but in the absolute final the Polish super striker was able to score. He secured the 4-0 final score with his 43rd league goal of this calendar year. He thus surpasses Gerd Müller with the most goals ever in one calendar year in the Bundesliga.
Bayern also remains authoritarian in the Bundesliga thanks to the 4-0 win, while Wolfsburg remains in the right column after the new defeat. Die Wölfe can now not win nine games in a row across all competitions.
