France Football editor reveals vote for Lewandowski and says how Pole could still take the prize

According to Pascal Ferré, editor of France Football, Robert Lewandowski may still have a recognized 2020 Golden Ball victory despite the ceremony not having taken place. The idea was proposed by Lionel Messi himself, who won the award this year

Last Monday (29) winning Lionel Messi’s seventh Golden Ball, at an event held in Paris, gave rise to some discussions, among them the possibility that second place Robert Lewandowski may have gotten the better of the Argentine in the awards. And, according to the editor of “France Football”, the magazine that organizes the award, the Polish still has a chance of winning the glittering 2020 trophy.

In an interview with the Swiss website “Watson”, Pascal Ferré commented on the controversy surrounding the victory of Lionel Messi, who for many had a lower performance between 2020 and 2021 when compared to the striker of the Bayern Munchen, but made it clear that the Ballon d’Or voting is extremely democratic, and that the star of the PSG won because in fact it was the most voted.

The editor of the French magazine even made a revelation: your vote was in Left, not Messi. However, he recognized the Argentine’s victory as legitimate.

“The Golden Ball is based on a democratic system. There are 170 members on the jury, and they decided to vote for Messi. I didn’t put Messi first, I chose Lewandowski. But I think Messi also deserves the Golden Ball,” he revealed.

In 2020, Lewandowski was considered the favorite to win the award, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Golden Ball was not handed over by “France Football”. The Bayern striker only earned the Fifa The Best, distinguished award.

And during this year’s awards, after taking the stage to receive his seventh trophy, Lionel Messi himself acknowledged Lewa’s victory last year and suggested that the achievement be granted by the French magazine to the Pole. And according to Ferré, this in fact can still happen.

“What Messi said was very nice and smart. I don’t think we have to make decisions too fast. We can think about it, and we should. We can’t be sure that Lewandowski would win last year as there wasn’t a vote, but to be honest, he had a lot of chance of winning“, finished.
