Four Colombian champions with Timbers in MLS: Moreno scored a goal | Colombians Abroad

With goals from the Chilean Felipe Mora and the Colombian Santiago Moreno, Portland Timbers won the title of the Western Conference of the United States, beating Real Salt Lake this Saturday. Also coffee growers Diego and Yimmi Chara, and Dairon Asprilla, celebrated the title of lumberjacks. But this is not over yet; in a few days they will play for the grand final of the MLS.

The title obtained in front of just over 20,000 spectators at Providence Park, in the city of Portland (Oregon), qualified Venezuelan coach Giovanni Savarese’s pupils for the MLS Grand Final against the Eastern Conference champion, whose final will be this Sunday between Philadelphia Union and New York City. The Grand Final between the winner of this match and Timbers, will be played on December 11.

The resistance of Real Salt Lake City lasted just 5 minutes today and was capitalized by Mora, 28, by finishing off a bad clearance by his guards. Timbers dominated the actions with a good physical display on the lanes of the Colombian brothers Yimmi and Diego Chará, as well as the permanent presence in the Real area by Paraguayan winger Cristhian Paredes and Mora himself.

The finishing touch was put by the Portland team in the 61st minute through the Colombian Santiago Moreno, 21, who from outside the area released a powerful shot that exploded first at the base of the right vertical of the Mexican-American goalkeeper David Ochoa.

To make matters worse, the Las Cruces, Mexico-born American right-back received the second warning in the 79th minute and left Real with ten players on the field. In the final minutes, coach Savarese was dedicated to moving his bench and introducing changes that slowed the pace of the frantic match.
