The Cuban delegation participating in the i Junior Pan American Games met expectations by closing their performance with 70 medals: 29 gold, 19 silver and 22 bronze.

Despite the short preparation time, the new generations of Cuban athletes achieved good records, in addition to gaining in competitive experience.

Here are some important data about the results in Cali-Valle 2021:

– The five young people who were in Tokyo confirmed their progression by obtaining a gold medal in Cali: Daniela Fonseca, Leyanis Pérez, Katherin Nuevo, José Ramón Pelier and Laura Herin.

– The effectiveness of the Cuban medals was 33%: 70 medals with 212 athletes is equivalent to that of every three members of the delegation, one was a medalist.

– Cuba achieved medals in 14 of the 26 sports in which it participated, that is, more than 50% of them.

– Cuba ranked first in the fight;
second place in athletics;
second place in boxing;
fourth place in canoeing;
second place in diving;
second place in judo;
second place in table tennis and
third place in beach volleyball.

– Of the 189 tests in which he participated, he obtained medals in 69, for a 37% effectiveness on the podiums.

– More than 210 of the gold medals of the total of 311 contested, were obtained only by five countries; or what is the same, 68% corresponded to the first five nations of the medal table, which speaks of the deficiencies of the continent that emerge from these ages.
