Feyenoord starts fundraising for family of deceased public favorite Christian Gyan (43) | Football

“Many thanks on behalf of Feyenoord, FSV De Feijenoorder and the Gyan family”, reads the donation platform. The Ghanaian-born died this week at the age of 43. Gyan had been terminally ill for some time.

The defender was under contract with Feyenoord from 1997 to 2007 and also played for Excelsior on a rental basis. Gyan won the UEFA Cup with Feyenoord in 2002 and became a crowd favorite in Rotterdam. Gyan has been known to give away virtually all of his money to people who he thought could use it better. After his football career, he worked for a while in the port of Rotterdam.
