Djokovic hopes to be able to take part in Australian Open – Tennis – Apollo.lv – Sports

Djokovic has already been reported to have withdrawn from the ATP Cup in Sydney on Saturday, which starts on Saturday, but his participation in the Australian Open is still unclear.

This year, only tennis players vaccinated against Covid-19 will be able to take part in the Australian Open, but Serbian Djokovic, who is a vaccine skeptic, has avoided talking publicly about his vaccination status on the pretext that it is a private matter.

“Unfortunately, he is not currently with us in this tournament,” Lajovic said at an ATP Cup press conference. “He just said there would be no ATP in the Cup, but he would try to get to the Australian Open.”

Djokovic has won the Australian Open nine times and shares the title of Grand Slam tennis player with Roger Federer of Switzerland and Rafael Nadal of Spain, each with 20 trophies. Federer will not play in Melbourne, but Nadal recently contracted Covid-19.

The first Grand Slam of the season – the Australian Open – will run from January 17-30.
