Discover the ranking of French sportsmen and women of the year, by “L’Équipe”

The Team unveils its “champion of champions” ranking

To mark the end of the year 2021, the newspaper L’Équipe has shared its annual ranking of the most remarkable French sportsmen and women over the past twelve months!

The trophy “Champion of champions“reward since 1946 the French athletes who have marked the year the most, and have distinguished men from women since 2012. The rankings are made thanks to votes of the journalists of the editorial staff of the Team, by secret bulletins, which choose the five most remarkable athletes of the year! (First place is worth 6 points, second 4 … up to fifth place at 1 point).

Championship ranking

For women, it’s judoka Rennaise Clarisse Agbégnénou which occupies the first place of this feminine ranking, for the third year! Titled in 2021 for the fifth time at the Worlds and twice gold medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, the sportswoman lived months rich in rewards. In the rest of this ranking, we find in second place the Brest handball player. Cleopatra Darleux, then the freestyle skier Perrine Laffont.

Champions ranking

On the men’s side, it’s the cyclist Julian Alaphilippe who is the lucky winner, for the third year in a row. The first Frenchman to keep his world champion’s jersey, and present at the top of the bill throughout the season, he is followed in the standings by the driver Fabio Quartararo, as well as by the skier Alexis Pinturault.
