Diego Maradona’s brother Hugo died in Naples at 52

“Hugo Maradona is dead,” said Napoli in a brief statement, confirming information from the Italian media according to which the younger brother of Diego Maradona, who died on November 25, 2020, succumbed to a heart attack.

The president of the club, Aurelio De Laurentiis, and the team “gather around the family of Maradona and unite with her in the pain caused by Hugo’s disappearance”, adds the text.

Hugo Maradona, father of three children living in Miami (Florida, south-eastern United States), was pronounced dead when help arrived at his home in Monte di Procida, in the Neapolitan metropolitan area.

Former player, he played in Italy or Spain

A former player, he had played in Italy, Austria, Spain, Argentina and Japan, before returning to Italy to settle there permanently and pursue a brief career as a coach in amateur clubs in Naples. He had recently run on a right-wing list in the municipal elections, which were ultimately won by the left.

He had barely arrived of age in the large southern port city, in 1987, recruited by Napoli, before being loaned to Ascoli. On September 20 of the same year, the two brothers clashed in a match won 2-1 by Napoli, recalled the daily Il Corriere del Mezzogiorno.
