Darts World Cup: German fairy tale over in 3rd round: clap for Hempel! – darts

It has dreamed up!

Our darts hope Florian Hempel (31) was eliminated from the World Cup. The former second division handball player lost 4-1 against Raymond Smith.

After his surprising sensational victory over Dimitri van den Bergh (number five in the world) it was a disappointment!

1 sentence: Hempel grabs the first leg, but not much comes after that. You can tell that he has something to lose today. Smith can easily grab the sentence. He scores almost 20 more points per shot than Hempel.

In the second sentence, too, he chases after the action. Smith plays really well and takes the lead again 2-0. Hempel counters and comes up to 2: 2.

Then the decisive leg around the sentence: Hempel starts catastrophically. Smith strikes and takes the second set as well.

In the third sentence, Hempel shakes his head several times, then leaves some chances. His luck: Smith is no longer playing at the same level as the previous sets. After 1: 2 deficit in the legs, he comes back. Hempel starts the decisive leg with a 180, gets the set! Only 1: 2 …

Can he turn it around?

In the fourth movement, Hempel has several ways of approaching it. However, he weakens on the doubles. While he had hit three out of four darts on the doubles in the victory over van den Bergh, it is only 35 percent. Too little!

The “Kölsche Jung” is also distracted by the fans and loses concentration. Smith takes advantage of that and takes the lead with 3: 1 in sets!

The German darts hope starts the fifth set with a 2-1 lead. Smith grabs the fourth leg – the decision is made! There Hempel loses his nerve again and struggles with himself.

Hempel has a chance for the set, misses double 20. Smith does better and wins!

As a result of the end, Hempel remains at number 62 in the world rankings, earning almost 30,000 euros in prize money. Smith will face Steve Lennon’s winner against Mervyn King on Thursday.

In the evening (from 8 p.m. at Darts / Sport1) Germany’s darts number one Gabriel Clemens meets fellow favorite Jonny Clayton. There are only two games in the late session. James Wade receives a bye because Vincent van der Voort tested positive for the corona virus.
