Cuba secures rowing and table tennis finals for today ›Granma

The Cuban delegation present in Cali this Wednesday experienced a golden day with ten titles, distributed between boxing (four), Greco-Roman wrestling (four) and athletics (two).

The flagship also added the silver medal of Jorge Daniel Forcades in the 69 kilograms, who fell in the final against Quincey Williams, of the United States, by a divided decision of 4-1.

In the Greco wrestling a similar situation occurred, as Liober Josué Betancourt lost just seconds from the end to the Brazilian Igor Fernando Alves, in the 97 kg division. The South American surprised the Antillean who, due to inexperience, celebrated victory ahead of time. Samuel Gutiérrez (60 kg) was the only Cuban who could not advance to the gold dispute when he fell in his first fight.

For his part, in athletics, the standard-bearer of the Cuban delegation, Juan Carley Vázquez, won the bronze metal in the impulse of the bullet with a personal mark of 17.85 meters, in a competition won by the Argentine Nazareno Uriel Sasia, with a national record from 20.08. The silver corresponded to the local Ronald Grueso (17.98).

María de Lourdes Calderín finished in tenth place in the 800 meter dash with 2: 19.91 minutes, a test dominated by her compatriot Daily Cooper.

Leonardo Castillo qualified for the final of 400 meters with a time of 47.18 seconds, being third in his heat after the disqualification of the Brazilian athlete.

The men’s handball team gave up the first place in group b when they fell to their counterpart from Argentina with a score of 40-29. However, the Cubans advance as seconds of their key to the semifinals.

The duo made up of Luis Enrique Reyes and Noslen Díaz defeated the U21 world champion duo, made up of the Brazilian brothers Rafael and Renato Andrew Lima, in an epic match, with partials of 18-21, 22-20 and 17-15 , so that they ensure their passage to the quarterfinals of the beach voly.

On the other hand, both the mixed double (Daniela Fonseca-René Méndez) and the female (Daniela Fonseca-Karla Pérez) fell before their counterparts in Brazil.

In the individual time trial for women, Cuban Aylena de las Mercedes Quevedo was seventh, with a time of 23: 53.57 minutes, while in the men’s section Kevin Vega was fifteenth and Yan Luis Arrieta nineteenth, with times of 33: 39.60 minutes and 34: 36.28 minutes, respectively.

Héctor Ernesto Caballero placed last in his qualifying series, with a time of 45.78 seconds, and was unable to advance in speed skating to 500 meters. In the test, the gold went to the Brazilian Guilherme Abel Rocha, the silver to the Chilean Nicolás Antonio Albornoz and the bronze to the Venezuelan Jose Carlos Rojas.

At the end of this edition, Yancarlos Hernández and Marys Adela Patterson competed in the heptathlon in the decathlon, the baseball team fell to Colombia 8-0, and will discuss the bronze against Venezuela.
